A friend of mine did. Heres wat he thinks Happens.

This is happening as a Guest at Hall.
Person A Trades 1 Ecto
Person B Trades 1 ZKey

Person A who wants to Scam takes (long) time to accept. person B sees what hes getting and decides to press Accept still waiting for Person A to Accept.

Somewhere DURING This Time. Person A Revokes the Guest. Switches the Item to a Random material and Somehow Manages for it to go through. It Trades then the person is kicked immidiatly and is Left with a Random Material instead of what he or she was really trading for.

This is an Exploit Ob for this should not happen.

(dont know if this matters something) i had inventory open whole time. i press accept, then he press accept and fast removes my guest invitation. i saw ectos in my inventory like 1-2 seconds before i get mapped back to kamadan. when im in kamadan my 50 ectos have changed to 50 wood planks. and im 100% sure it was showing ectos both on trade and my inventory before mapping back to kamadan.

guy still keeps telling he has no idea about this but im going to report him anyways.
The exact same thing happened to my guildie, he too was selling a brace when he got an invite to a GH. The guy offered him 50 ectos and when he accepted he revoked his guest privileges quickly, and my guildie was left with 50 wood planks in his inv.

Until this is fixed we should be careful when trading >100k worth of stuff, esp armbraces:

1) Do not do the trade in anyone's GH
2) if he takes too long to show the ectos, or has trouble doing it, he's prolly a scammer.
3) Do not accept the trade of any brace until the other party accepts and the trade window says xx ectos

This has to be the worst trade exploit since the duping exploit. Anet better be working on fixing this as a top emergency.

When the disconnection trading exploit happened last time I remember a few people in a well known PvE guild were testing this exploit with red dye. They got it to dupe and reported it to anet with "hey, we tested. and this is how we did it, i hope this info helps"

Because they were seen to be using the exploit they got hit with a ban that, at the time, was labelled as a perma-ban. After a few days of back-and-forthing with Support and the like they *did* get the ban revoked because they were innocent and just trying to be helpful.

So word of caution to anyone out there trying to duplicate this in the name of reporting it -- Be careful. Don't willynilly go trying to mass trade an armbrace you have amongst yourselves as it may look suspicious.

Also, yike O_o; this is pretty big.

It shouldn't, this is more of a "warning, don't trade for X" as opposed to "this is a bug, I'll post it in the Bug Section so ANet will never see it".

Anyway, this can be avoided by just waiting for the other person to hit accept, no?

Well if there was a similar exploit before hopefully that means that this one can be closed off quickly. In the mean time I guess people have to be extra carefull.

I'd vote against a move to bugs. I mean, who visits bugs? >_>

We need this to stay in a prominent spot, so it can be quickly spotted by Regina or someone else who can fix the damn thing.

Damn this is nasty and should be fixed.

However i dont see why you would trade in the GH of your buyer/seller >.>
It seems that's the only way to activate this trade bug so dont sell
any stuff in your buyer/seller's GH i guess.

i have to say that i've noticed trades myself taking an unusual amount of time in the last few days....i have only been buying skulls, but it almost seems like a lag or delay issue.

i dont understand how items such as ecto and armbraces turn to wood however.

Perhaps the scammer used a macro that very quickly swaps the armbrace with a wood plank in the trade as you hit accept, and then accepts and kicks you from the GH? Did you have to press accept twice? Sometimes people can be too quick pressing accept, or think they didn't press correctly the first time, so they press again (while in reality the fast macro changed something in the trade causing the second needed click)?

Just speculation, probably wrong, as you both say you SAW the item in your inventory, but upon being kicked it changed into wood...

I recently bought an armbrace myself, I think I remember being invited to a GH for that as well, and I also remember being kicked out rather quickly after the trade. But I still have my 'brace sitting safely in my Xunlai storage.
(Just can't remember if that GH trade/kick was for the 'brace or something else...)

I hope anet fixes this FAST!!

Just pm her or file a bug report to the support. Maybe putting the informations on her wiki talk page is best.

All the screenshot is is a cropped two-line pic saying:

"X traded you 1 wood plank.
You traded X 40 Zaishen Keys."

Not missing much

Keep in this forum; this is more of an exploit than a bug, and deserves the most visibility. It should be handled as a priority over anything else currently being in the works.

It's not being moved to the bugs forum. This is a warning in a high traffic forum, not a bug report in a low traffic forum.

So is it safe to trade in an ordinary town? And should I avoid going to peoples' halls to trade?

Although the full details of this exploit are not clear yet, it seems atm that for each and every case, the scammer sends a guest invite and then revokes it immediately when the other person accepts the trade. So as far as I can tell, trading in towns should be fine. Obviously, just like everything else, use common sense.
